Nelson Reyneri


Director of Strategic Alliances and Policy

Nelson serves as the Director of Strategic Alliances and Policy for NRG.  Previously, he served as Principal in Point B’s Environmental, Social and Governance practice. Point B is a consulting company dedicated to helping organizations with critical initiatives in the areas of customer engagement, growth investments, workforce experience and operations excellence.  In this role he leads and advises client engagements within the ESG industry across markets and supports the development of Point B’s people as a key leader in their ESG practice.

Nelson has over two decades of leadership experience in the energy sector, serving as part of the leadership team that scaled Liberty Power from a startup to becoming one of the largest minority owned business in the country. Nelson held numerous leadership roles during his tenure at Liberty Power, most recently as Senior Vice President for Sales and External Affairs. In this role, he led the company’s strategy for developing structured solutions to support corporations’ energy and sustainability goals.  This resulted in Liberty Power growing from serving less than a dozen Fortune 500 companies to over 100 over the past decade. 

Nelson also has extensive senior leadership experience in the public sector, having served in senior leadership positions in the Clinton Administration, including as Chief of Staff at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and as Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff to President Clinton. In the 2004 election cycle, Reyneri led the Democratic Party’s outreach to the Hispanic community. Prior to joining the DNC he served as a Senior Advisor to U.S. Senator John Kerry. In 2016, he was nominated by President Barack Obama to serve on the Board of Directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), a position requiring Senate confirmation. 
Nelson also serves as a CNBC contributor, commenting on issues related to energy and sustainability, politics and government and diversity and inclusion. He is also Co-Founder and President of the Future of American Energy, a nonprofit whose mission is to increase diversity and inclusion in the energy and sustainability sector.   Nelson also serves on the Board of the Seattle Credit Union, on the Board of the National Utilities Diversity Council and as Vice Chair of the Board of Together Washington. 
Nelson holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and a Bachelor’s degree, Summa Cum Laude, in Psychology and Philosophy and in Political Science from Boston University, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa.
